Partnership for Peace Foundation

Projects

Between 2009 and 2010, we have been working in partnership with 8 community groups and 2 schools in Birmingham, to fulfil the following pilot projects to support the development of young people and adults.
Women’s cultural study project – gaining understanding in how to use the Bangladeshi language and culture to motivate each other and in upbringing children with parenting skills, focusing on early year’s development.

Citizenship course – understanding and dealing with racism, extremism, prejudice as well as covering topics like volunteering, charity, research, dialogue, etc

Mentoring project – motivating, coaching and raising aspirations, identifying learning barriers & learning styles, problem solving skills, the role of education and general advice & guidance

Youth champions project – leadership training focussing on personal development, promoting active citizenship (youth work / volunteering) and how to help others to overcome conflict, discrimination, social problems, etc

Sports project – football, cricketing and other sports and leisure activities to promote good health, participation and community cohesion

We have held 2 conferences to engage the public and carry out consultation before commencing on the above projects. We are continuously consulting to develop a project which will support youth in developing and strengthening language and communication skills – Bengali, Urdu and English.

Current needs: As well as the above mentioned projects, we are receiving a lot of enquiries throughout Birmingham and Sandwell, from the public to provide Information, Advice & Guidance to support them on welfare rights issues, Supporting women and the elderly etc. Therefore in 2011, we will concentrate on both youth educational, personal and social development as well as in assisting adults with numerous welfare issues. Also, we have been contacted by parents and guardians to support prisoners, therefore we are consulting widely on this issue with various bodies.
